Welcome to Lithuania Cricket Confederation
About Cricket
Welcome to the beautiful world of Cricket. Cricket is a gentleman's game because many early cricketers in England, where the game originated, came from affluent backgrounds, and were considered to hold virtues of a 'Gentleman'. In modern times, the game has retained this title due to the values associated with it; especially the idea of fair play and normally the game culture is to hold the spirit of sportsmanship high at all levels combined with strategy making, decision making skills.
Popularity of cricket
The European Cricket Council (ECC) was established in 1997 to replace the European Cricket Federation, which had grown from 14 to 37 member countries (as of 2006). Nine member countries are ICC associate members, 17 are affiliate members, and 11 are ICC prospective members.
The game continues to develop in popularity, particularly in the Baltics, with Estonia and Latvia both having their own international team and a slew of domestic clubs that help to grow cricket in their respective countries, with backing from the ICC, ECC, other cricket boards, and universities.
Each member nation in International cricket council has a national cricket board which regulates cricket matches played in its country, selects the national squad, and organizes home and away tours for the national team.
Cricket in Lithuania
Cricket first came to Lithuania on the 2nd August 2005 when the British Embassy hosted a game. On a gloriously sunny summer evening, players from Lithuania, England, Scotland, Sweden, Hungary, Spain, Australia, Canada and the USA enjoyed batting, bowling and fielding in the grounds of the Lithuanian Military Academy.
There was a cricket federation around 2007 to develop the sport in the country “Lithuanian Cricket federation”. They did their best to develop the sport and represented Lithuania internationally in cricket and surely they are the inspiration for “Lithuania Cricket Confederation” and for many upcoming cricket clubs and players. Sadly now they are inactive due to some confidential reasons and currently there were no official clubs or organization to develop the sport and represent it.
In Kaunas, Vilnius, Klaipeda lot of cricketing groups are there and cricket events are happening in and around Lithuania.
